About the Event

Energy X Digital

For the webinar series this year, the Energy Geographies and Digital Geographies Research Groups of the RGS are working together to bring you analysis, talks, and discussions that engage at the intersections of energy and digital systems.

Title: Digital Energy Futures: anticipating new worlds with design ethnography and scenario planning

Speaker: Professor Yolande Strengers, Monash University, Australia

Abstract:  This presentation outlines a methodology developed through the Australian Research Council's Digital Energy Futures research project which highlights new visions for energy futures grounded in people's everyday lives and expectations for emerging technologies. Drawing on sociotechnical analyses of industry imaginaries from across the energy and digital technology sectors, digital ethnography research, design ethnography research, and surveys with households, the talk will outline a series of "scenarios for future living" and discuss their implications for energy planning, demand management and futures research.
